forever fields

The site of St Margarets Centre & Playing Fields on Brantingham Road was bought in 1927 from Lord Egerton of Tatton with funding raised by the wife of St Margaret’s church vicar with the site being held ‘forever’ in trust and has been a charity since 1985. The trust deeds ensure that the land will always be used for recreational and sporting use and to benefit the “people of the parish”; the parish being St Margaret’s in Whalley Range.

In August 2023, MUD successfully applied for the Mayor's Green Spaces Fund aimed at enhancing a section of underused land adjacent to the street for local residents to engage with nature through play, experimentation and growing.

We have built extensive new hedging and tree planting, food growing space, accessible raised beds, willow fencing, natural play equipment and seating areas.

The community centre groups and local community are welcome to use the space and join in our weekly volunteer days.
