PLATT FIELDS MARKET GARDEN

Our main site is a former bowling green in Fallowfield, South Manchester: Platt Fields Market Garden (PFMG). PFMG is a member of the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) network. On this site we produce over 1 tonne of food on just ½ an acre of land annually, in addition to improving the soil health, air quality and biodiversity of the area.

At PFMG, we work with the community by hosting volunteer days, provide cooked food, facilitate & organise free events, fundraise / promote local community groups, offer a space to hire and we work with local businesses - it is both a community hub and a working market garden.

PFMG began as a fallow patch of grass with no facilities and with the work of staff and volunteers is now a unique and thriving community market garden and is home to 10+ community groups & businesses. It is a beautiful oasis in a busy urban city. It is a place where local people develop a wide range of horticulture skills, connect with others, increase their physical activity, share food, learn about sustainable food growing and get involved in developing ideas and projects.

It’s the home of MUD Kitchen where we operate a café 3 days a week as a way to keep the gates open and generate an income to help run the garden. Click on the links to find out more.
